Canada’s Emerging
Co-operators Application
Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) encourages the participation of youth within the co-operative community through Canada’s Emerging Co-operators (CEC). This committee gathers young co-operators, between the ages of 18-35, to discuss issues and solutions relevant for emerging co-operators, and to advise CMC on the point of view of the young Canadian co-operative leaders.
CEC’S GOALS
CEC’s goal is to:
- Understand the needs of new co-operator leaders and how to fulfill them;
- Shape discussions about the future of leadership within the co-operative and mutual sector;
- Create a space for young co-operators to highlight, increase, and celebrate their involvement in the co-operative sector.
Commitment
Those chosen for the committee can expect the following time commitment over the course of their three-year term:
- Monthly committee meetings (virtual) – 1-2 hours per month (typically held in evenings)
- Sub-committee meetings (virtual) as required – 1-3 hours per month (typically 1-2)
Eligibility
Successful candidates must :
- Be currently engaged within the co-operative and mutual sector
- Be 35 years or under
- Be able to commit to the monthly commitment described above
- If your employer is a CMC member, you should provide notice to your employer that you are on the CEC committee, and it may require some work during work hours
