Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada Awards

CMC is proud to honour and recognize the outstanding leadership of Canadian co-operatives and mutuals and the people within the movement whose leadership and achievements serve as inspiration.

Co-operative of the Year Award

The CMC Co-operative of the Year Award honours Canadian co-operative and mutual organizations that have made significant contributions to co-operatives and mutuals in Canada and/or internationally.

Eligibility is considered based on contributions in innovation, and impact receiving national and/or international recognition. In any year, the Awards Committee may recommend to the CMC Board of Directors to grant one award for a “large” co-operative of the year and one award for a “small” co-operative of the year.  


The 2018 recipients:

Gay Lea Foods Co-operative [Large]

Federation of Co-operative Housing of British Columbia (FCHBC) [Small]

Emerging Co-operator Award

The CMC Emerging Co-operator Award honours men and women 35 years of age or less who have contributed outstanding efforts to the cause and the development of co-operative and mutual enterprises.

This award provides recognition to an individual who has contributed in especially significant ways to promoting, developing or uniting co-operatives and mutuals in Canada and/or internationally.


The 2018 recipient:

Julien Geremie

Achievement Award

The CMC Achievement Award honours men and women who have contributed outstanding efforts to the cause and the development of co-operative and mutual enterprises.

This award provides recognition to an individual who has contributed in especially significant ways to promoting, developing or uniting co-operatives and mutuals in Canada and/or internationally.
