Delegates voted to add a designated youth seat to the Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) Board of Directors on Wednesday November 25 during a special members meeting in Ottawa. This vote confirms CMC members’ desire to engage youth perspectives in the co-operative movement in Canada. The resolution to amend the By-laws to that effect was accepted with the required two-thirds support.
The CMC Board structure was also confirmed during the special meeting as having three designated seats for large Anglophone co-operatives, three designated seats for large Francophone co-operatives, a designated seat each for the Francophone and Anglophone provincial associations, and seven elected seats, one of which is now designated for a person less than 35 years of age.
The election of the newly designated youth seat will occur during the CMC Annual Meeting being held on June 16 in Winnipeg.
