CMC Congress 2024
Each year, CMC hosts a Congress in a different province to bring together the Canadian co-operative and mutual movement to network, think about the future of the sector and have thought-provoking sessions with highly respected speakers.
For its 10th anniversary, CMC is honored to host the Canadian co-operative movement once again. This year is also very special to the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council (NSCC) who is also celebrating its 75th anniversary. CMC and NSCC are joining forces for this Congress to highlight both of these important milestones. CMC and NSCC have the privilege to host Canada’s co-operative and mutual leader from June 11th to June 13th 2024 at the Halifax Convention Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Under this year’s theme of “Navigating Change Together,” leaders of co-operatives and mutuals from Coast to Coast to Coast will attend thought-provoking plenaries as well as participate in interactive workshops and breakout sessions. These plenaries and workshops will discuss one of the three main following sub-themes:
-Taking action in a Changing Economy and Workforce.
-Leading the way in a Digital and Technological Era.
-Leveraging Innovation and Transformation to Build a Just and Equitable World.

During these three engaging days in Halifax, attendees will network with the sector’s top leaders and supporters, and share best practices on adapting to the ongoing changes to the Canadian co-operative and mutual landscape. Uniquely this year, CMC is also offering an optional, full-day tour of co-operative and wineries in the Annapolis Valley on Friday June 14, the day following Congress. Indeed, CMC is pleased to invite you to join fellow Congress participants on a guided co-operative and winery tour of the Annapolis Valley.
Departing at 9am from the Sutton Place Hotel on Friday June 14, the day after Congress, this guided tour on a fully equipped coach will take us into the beautiful Annapolis Valley. Along the way our kilted guide will enchant us with tales of the inhabitants of the area: the First Nations peoples, the Acadians, and the settlers from Germany.
Our first stop will be in Wolfville, where we will be treated to a tour of Just Us! Coffee Roasters Co-op’s roastery. With our fresh coffees (or teas!) in hand, we will make our way to Scotian Gold Co-operative for a guided tour of their operations. We will then head over to Lightfoot and Wolfville Vineyards to, not only enjoy a curated tasting of their three signature wines, but also enjoy a four-course lunch overlooking their fields. Then on to Gaspereau Vineyards for second tour and wine tasting before settling in for the drive back to Halifax (estimated return at 6pm).

Co-operative Governance ICCM Course
A pre-Congress short course will be held on June 10, 2024, from 9am to 4:30pm, at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The course fee is $500 CAD plus 15% tax per person and includes coffee breaks and lunch.
