There is a tremendous need for co-op-specific board governance education in Ontario.

The more informed a board is on effective co-operative governance practices, the stronger the leadership, which will positively impact the co-operative’s operations and success.

OCA will address this need by designing and launching a brand new Governance Forum for non-financial co-operatives, to provide professional development, learning and networking opportunities for co-operatives of all sizes and stages of growth in Ontario.

While we recognize that organizations that have their own internal training processes in place may not see a benefit to this type of Forum, there is still significant value in sitting at the table and sharing their knowledge and experience with other directors. There is always a need for greater collaboration and CO-OPERATION among and between leaders in the co-operative movement, no matter what the size or sector.  

If this pilot initiative is successful, we aspire to host this event annually, in hopes of continuing our resolve to provide quality education and helping to strengthen and enhance the governance practices and skills of Ontario’s co-operatives
