Volunteer Job Description
Canada’s Emerging Co-operators (CEC) is a working and advisory committee made up of young people age 35 or younger who are engaged members, directors or employees of a co-operative or mutual in Canada. It is a management committee of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada that meets monthly by conference call and bi-annually in-person.
Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) is a member-driven association that supports, promotes and unites co-operative and mutual organizations. CMC strives to advance the co-operative economy by supporting co-op development, advocating with government and conducting research to improve public policy. CMC serves as a common table for co-operatives and mutuals in Canada.
CEC’s mandate is to REPRESENT the interests of young and future Canadian cooperators through consultations, recommendations, programs, and services, and PROMOTE the cooperative model to youth in order to enhance and ensure their commitment, involvement, and representation in the cooperative movement in both English and French-speaking Canada.
What you’re responsible for:
Participating in committee and sub-committee meetings;
Reporting back to your networks, youth committees, etc. about the work of the committee and reporting back to the committee on activities and potential partnerships with other co-operative youth initiatives;
Chairing sub-committees as needed and representing these sub-committees when required;
Participating and leading the development of action plans, activities and programs of the committee;
Notifying the President/sub-committee chair if you are unable to attend a meeting;
Following up with the outcomes of the meeting by consulting the Minutes
Following up with their action items and contacting the President for additional information when needed.
What to expect:
This role works with other committee members via monthly teleconference calls and online collaboration tools. CEC committee members have 2 face-to-face meetings each year in November and June.
The time commitment is approximately 2-4 hours a month.

You must be between the ages of 18-35 at the time of appointment to CEC.
You volunteer or work in the co-operative sector with a connection to CMC’s membership.
