Welcome Michael to the CMC team! Michael will guide CMC as its new leader, equipped with his extensive background in the social economy, community economic development and the co-operative and mutual sector. Advocating for more democratic, inclusive and sustainable economies has been at the heart of his career. Joining the national voice of the co-operatives and mutuals in Canada is a natural next step to continue advancing an economy that serves people and the planet better.

“I’m particularly excited to be joining CMC in this International Year of Co-operatives.  Canada’s co-operative movement has been building communities for over 150 years, with over 10 million Canadians now members of a co-operative, credit union or mutual. In times of uncertainty and disruption, co-operatives are a trusted source of stability, resiliency and innovation – today and for the future.”

As the new Executive Director of CMC, Michael will focus on growing the co-operative movement in Canada by supporting CMC’s Members and delivering results on CMC’s strategic priorities. Ultimately, the success of the cooperative movement means making it easier for more people – consumers, policy makers and all Canadians – to understand the value of co-operation and the benefits it offers.

Author of many articles and reports, co-editor of the book Community Economic Development: Building for Social Change, Michael has experience, among others, as a consultant in community economic development, a policy analyst, a lecturer, and a researcher. He lives in the traditional territory of the Wabanaki Nation in south-central Québec.

Help us welcome him in the CMC team!
