Motion M-100 was passed unanimously by Parliament on April 5th, 2017.  In fall 2018, under the direction of Director General Étienne-René Massie, ISED completed a consultation with both federal ministries and provincial counterparts.  Now ISED is seeking feedback from the co-operative sector on the following four areas:

  • Accessing Federal Programs and Services
  • Raising Awareness of the Co-op Model
  • Modernizing Co-op Sector Data
  • Seeking opportunities: Indigenous economic development, women and youth entrepreneurship, renewable energy, and community-based innovation

TEXT OF MOTION M-100

That, in the opinion of the House, the government should recognize the important role co-operatives play in the economy and ensure that they continue to thrive by taking concrete steps such as: (a) developing, in consultation with provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous communities and the co‑operative sector, a federal co-operative strategy to promote and support Canada’s co-operative sector; and (b) providing periodic progress reports on pre‑established goals and targets.
