Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) has undergone a thorough examination and revamping of our operations to ensure our compliance under the new Canadian Spam law (CASL). You may have been receiving emails for a variety of reasons: Event notifications, News Briefs, or for the Governance Matters publications series, but as with all contact databases now, we are required to secure your consent to continue to send you emails. For CMC, getting your explicit consent is crucial given that our email contact databases have been inherited from our founding organizations, Canadian Co-operative Association and Conseil canadien de la coopération et de la mutualité. This means we are in the unfortunate position of having no “implied” consent to have you listed in these email databases.

There are three things we require to be compliant with the new law:

  1. We must ensure to have appropriate consent under CASL to send email to the contacts. This means a re-subscription is required from our friends and followers with “I consent” selected. If you have already done so, thank you.
  2. We must provide detailed sender identification in the email, including a mailing address and either a phone number, email address or a website address valid for 60 days following message distribution. You will never receive information from us without this identification.
  3. We must include a functioning unsubscribe mechanism in the email, which is a simple link to an online unsubscribe page. All our list based correspondence will feature this unsubscribe link.

CMC CASL-Ready

If you are unsure about whether you have given appropriate consent under CASL for us to continue to send requested content to you, please take a moment to update your records. CMC can help if there are any technical questions or need for clarification, but we can no longer sign up subscribers to our database on their behalf.

The lists we currently maintain for your convenience are:

News Briefs: Current News and events in the co-operative movement

CMC Events and Notifications

Governance Matters

Please register and check the box that provides your explicit consent. Thank you for your co-operation in updating our email practices to be compliant with the new Canadian law.
