Congratulations to the Jason Rivest, recipient of the 2020 CMC Emerging Co-operator Award. This award honours an outstanding co-operators age 35 that have made a significant contribution to the co-operatives and mutuals sector in Canada and/or internationally.

Jason Rivest started his career with Profid’Or, a member of La Coop fédérée, where he was tasked with extolling the benefits of joining the organization. After eight years with Profid’Or, he was hired by the Conseil québécois de la coopération et de la mutualité (CQCM), where he worked with hundreds of young entrepreneurs aged 5 to 35 to promote a co-operative business model. As the President of Coopsco Trois-Rivières, he overhauled the co-op’s governance and achieved gender parity on the Board. He also gave a number of talks, organized symposiums about the co-op experience and assisted with recruitment efforts for both members and Directors. He took on a similar role as a Board member of the Caisse Desjardins de la Nouvelle-Acadie, where he helped the Desjardins Group recruit 10 Board members under age 35. In addition, he played a key role in the governance of the financial co-op, chairing the Audit and Professional Conduct Committee, sitting on the Governance and Ethics Committee, and overseeing training for Board members. Jason is also the founder and President of a solidarity co-op specializing in historical consulting.
