Doug Potentier

Doug Potentier of Victoria, British Columbia was first elected to the FCL Board of Directors in 2008, and in 2015 he was elected Vice-Chair of the Board and Calgary Region Chair.  He represents the 16 retail co-operatives in FCL’s district 4, which covers Vancouver Island, southern British Columbia and northwest British Columbia.

As an FCL Director, Doug is a member of the Board’s Governance and Human Resources Committees.  In addition, he is the Board’s representative to the British Columbia Co-operative Association and the BC region of The Co‑operators.

Over the years Doug has been very involved in his community, serving on various community organizations.  His current participation includes Director, Peninsula Co-op (first elected in 2001); and Vice Chair, Discipline Committee for the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia (first appointed in March of 2008).

A certified Canadian Management Professional (CMP) since 1998, he completed the requirements of FCL’s Advanced Director Development Program, Level II in 2008.  He also received his ICD.D designation after successfully completing the Institute of Corporate Directors training in September 2008 – Directors Education Program (DEP) for Directors of Large Companies/Organizations, offered by Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

Doug retired from the Victoria Police Department, where he was the Deputy Chief, in 2001.  He and his wife Darlene have two children and four grandchildren.
