CMC delegates approved the following motion to support and promote the agriculture sector at the 2018 Annual General Meeting held in Victoria British Columbia on June 21:
The Board of Directors of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) recommends, in concert with UFA and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, to promote the national contribution of the agricultural sector in the Canadian economy and increase its efforts to enhance and promote the economic well-being of agricultural producers and the agriculture industry in Canada through education, awareness, advocacy and strategic partnerships with the federal and provincial governments and other key stakeholders.
Agriculture is a major component of the Canadian economy. It also makes major contributions to international food sustainability and security. Canadian Agricultural Partnership is a pivotal component to the long-term success of the agricultural industry, and to further that objective CMC encourages the Federal and provincial governments to enhance agricultural trade within agreed upon trade rules.
