OTTAWA, November 1, 2016 \u2013 The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, P.C., M.P., announced yesterday that he will recommend the appointment of Ms. Lucie Moncion to serve in the Senate for the province of Ontario to the Governor General of Canada. Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) congratulates its current President of the Board of Directors Lucie Moncion on receiving this honour.<\/p>\n
Ms. Moncion\u2019s name was put forward for consideration to the Prime Minister by the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments as one of 2700 applicants. Lucie Moncion is an accomplished professional who is a leader in Canada\u2019s co-operative movement.<\/p>\n
Lucie Moncion has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance des caisses populaires de l\u2019Ontario since 2001, when she became the first woman to hold such a position in a credit union federation in Canada. L\u2019Alliance is a network of 12 caisses populaires that serves 23 Francophone municipalities in northeastern Ontario and plays a key role in the economic development of Francophone communities.<\/p>\n
Ms. Moncion has a deep commitment to community service and participates on various boards of directors, including Vice-President on the Board of Directors at Nipissing University, Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Direction Ontario, and as a member of the Board of Directors at Coll\u00e8ge Bor\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
Ms. Moncion became President and Chair of the Board of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada in 2016 and serves as President of the Conseil de la coop\u00e9ration de l\u2019Ontario. She holds a Master\u2019s Degree in Business Administration and has obtained the Chartered Director designation from both Universit\u00e9 Laval and McMaster University.<\/p>\n
Today, Prime Minister Trudeau recommended six Ontario representatives to serve in the Senate on Ontario\u2019s behalf. \u201cI look forward to working with those summoned to the Senate and seeing them use their remarkable knowledge and experience to benefit our great country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
