WINNIPEG \u2013 The Board of Directors of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) elected Lucie Moncion President of CMC on June 16 in Winnipeg during the 2016 Co-operative Congress and AGM. Ms. Moncion is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance des caisses populaires de l\u2019Ontario. Sylvie St-Pierre Babin, President of the Outaouais regional council of the Desjardins Group and Doug Potentier, Vice Chair of Federated Co-operatives Ltd. have been elected as CMC Vice presidents.<\/p>\n
During the AGM, the following new Directors were elected or appointed to the fifteen-member board: Martha Durdin, Stephanie Guico, James Bettcher, Fran\u00e7ois Hastir, and Normand Lafreni\u00e8re. Nick Sidor, Mark Needham, Melvin Doiron, Luc Forget, Ren\u00e9 Moreau, Victoria Morris, and Jack Wilkinson continue to serve as CMC Directors.<\/p>\n
CMC delegates passed a resolution at the AGM to support Bill C-286, a private members Bill tabled by Alexandra Mendes, Member of Parliament for Brossard \u2013 Saint-Lambert on June 8, which is an \u201cAn act respecting the establishment of a framework to promote the development of co-operatives in Canada and amending the Department of Industry Act and other Acts.\u201d The aim of the Bill is to promote the co-operative business model in federal and regional development by providing it with equal consideration with other business models. The framework will also help coordinate the work of the government and the co-operative sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are extremely happy to see Member of Parliament Alexandra Mendes recognize some of the issues impacting co-operative development in Canada and proposing solutions,\u201d said Denyse Guy, Executive Director of CMC. \u201cThis is why the CMC Board took the opportunity to immediately put this resolution before our members and request their support for this important Bill.\u201d<\/p>\n
CMC delegates also thanked and applauded outgoing Board members Hazel Corcoran and Doug Lang for their important contributions as founding Board Members of CMC.<\/p>\n
