{"id":238053,"date":"2016-06-08T15:44:00","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T19:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada.coop\/alexandra-mendes-tables-bill-c-286-to-establish-a-framework-for-the-co-operative-sector\/"},"modified":"2022-09-08T10:58:06","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T14:58:06","slug":"alexandra-mendes-tables-bill-c-286-to-establish-a-framework-for-the-co-operative-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada.coop\/en\/alexandra-mendes-tables-bill-c-286-to-establish-a-framework-for-the-co-operative-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"Alexandra Mend\u00e8s Tables BILL C-286 to establish a framework for the Co-operative sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>a framework for the Co-operatives Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>OTTAWA, June 8, 2016<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Alexandra Mend\u00e8s, Member of Parliament for Brossard \u2013 Saint-Lambert, tabled today Bill C-286&nbsp;<em>An act respecting the establishment of a framework to promote the development of co-operatives in Canada and amending the Department of Industry Act and other Acts<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of Bill C-286 is to provide for the establishment and implementation of a framework to promote the development of co-operatives in Canada and to amend the Department of Industry Act and the Regional Development Agency Acts to specify that, within their mandates, federal ministers and agencies are to develop and promote the co-operative model in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis legislation is the continuation of the work started by my colleague, the Honourable Mauril B\u00e9langer, (Ottawa-Vanier) and the recommendations that came from the Special Committee on Co-operatives in 2012. The aim of the act is to legislate a \u201chome\u201d for the co-operative sector within the department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development,\u201d said Alexandra.<\/p>\n<p>This bill would require the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, in collaboration with other federal ministries, agencies, provincial and territorial governments and the co-operative sector to develop and implement a framework on co-operatives. The framework will help coordinate the work of the government and the co-operative sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to promote the co-operative movement, to contribute to its development and to facilitate exchange and dialogue between the federal government and the co-operative sector.
