CMC attended the launch of various ICA and BDC initiatives, and took part in a panel at the Univet conference. October and November were fruitful months for CMC to advance the priorities of the Canadian co-operative movement!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 8, V\u00e9ronique Boucher was pleased to attend the <a href=\"https:\/\/chantier.qc.ca\/?lang=en\">Chantier de l&#8217;\u00e9conomie sociale<\/a>&#8216;s event &#8220;Inclusion en \u00e9conomie sociale : Bilan et perspectives&#8221; at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banq.qc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biblioth\u00e8que et Archives nationales du Qu\u00e9bec<\/a>, co-organized with the Institut de recherche sur l&#8217;immigration et sur les pratiques interculturelles et inclusives <a href=\"https:\/\/iripi.ca\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(IRIPI)<\/a> and the Comit\u00e9 sectoriel de la main-d&#8217;\u0153uvre en \u00e9conomie sociale et action communautaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csmoesac.qc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(CSMO-\u00c9SAC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CMC was pleased to hear the fascinating preliminary findings of the action-research on diversity inclusion in the social economy. Stories of social economy enterprises that include under-represented groups were also shared with participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The breakout sessions engaged the audience while providing a great opportunity for sharing and networking. The results of the discussions were shared, enabling participants to learn about inclusion in various aspects of the social economy (governance, human resources and much more).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 27, Daniel Brunette was pleased give a presentation on the Canadian co-operative movement and on business conversions to co-operatives, as part of a panel titled Transferring a business internally: a winning formula. Since then, the co-operative has grown steadily and now has more than 143 independent co-operative establishments across Quebec and aspirations of growing beyond. Fellow panellists included Gregory Brasseur from the <a href=\"https:\/\/ctequebec.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre de transfert d\u2019entreprise du Qu\u00e9bec (CTEQ),<\/a> Rachel Bachmann from Employee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.employee-ownership.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ownership<\/a> Canada, and Sylvie Martel from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omvq.qc.ca\/l-ordre\/mandat-mission-vision-et-valeurs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ordre des m\u00e9decins v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires du Qu\u00e9bec<\/a>. Quebec is currently undergoing a review of its Professional Code (Bill 67), seeking to modernize its professional system and broaden certain professional practices in the health and social services sector. This will likely create opportunities for the 422 000 members of Quebec\u2019s forty-six professional orders (doctors, lawyers, agronomists, architects, veterinarians, accountants, etc.) to consider new business models under which to operate. In anticipation of this review, UNIVET is proactively raising awareness for models such as co-operatives, to help their members consider how it can help with business succession, employee engagement and recruitment, shared services and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traveling back through the Laurentians, north of Montreal, following the Univet Congress, Daniel took the opportunity to stop in at the <a href=\"https:\/\/cafeomarguerites.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Coop\u00e9rative de solidarit\u00e9 \u2013 Caf\u00e9 O\u2019Marguerites<\/a> an amazing 70-seat restaurant with an attached specialized grocery store and boutique offering a wide range of bulk and local products carefully selected according to sustainability criteria. This initiative will enable BDC, through trusted partners, to provide financing and advice to create a strong and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. If you are looking to promote co-op procurement&nbsp;through food consumption, you are invited to stop at that location or consider the other 60 other co-op r<a href=\"https:\/\/crm.canada.coop\/en\/map?display_name=&amp;city=&amp;combine=&amp;categories_alphanumeric__335%5B%5D=15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">estaurants, caf\u00e9, bistros, cafeterias on the CMC map.<\/a>&nbsp;Daniel then met with Dr. Rafael Ziegler, the Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/institutcoop.hec.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alphonse and Dorim\u00e8ne Desjardins International Institute for Cooperatives<\/a>, in regard to the <a href=\"https:\/\/portailcoop.hec.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Co-op Gateway<\/a>&#8216;s digital library and the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/icaccr2025.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICA Committee on Cooperative Research &#8211; Global Research Conference 2025&nbsp;<\/a> in July.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On November 26,&nbsp; CMC met with Ottawa Centre MP and Parliamentary Secretary for Health Yasir Naqvi, to discuss the need for increased awareness and innovative uses of the co-op model. Proud Franco-Ontarian and NDP member, she was first elected in 2008 and is a stalwart proponent of co-operatives.
