The four guests included the Acting Secretary General of the Ghana Cooperatives Council, the General Manager and Chair of the Juaboso MICL Cooperatives Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Ltd and an Executive member of the BIA West MICL, Cooperatives Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Ltd. They were hosted in turn by Denyse Guy, Consultant and former Executive Director of CMC, and Daniel Brunette of CMC.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their journey of discovery covered more than 1500 kilometers and allowed them to see that co-ops in Canada have both a rich history and keep evolving, and also reinforced the notion that that the model is feasible in all sectors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Study Tour started on a very strong note in Longueuil, where the delegation learned about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agropur.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Agropur,<\/a> one of North America\u2019s leading dairy processors. The following day brought them to Baie d\u2019Urf\u00e9 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/fcnq.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des coop\u00e9ratives du Nouveau-Qu\u00e9bec Ilagiisaq<\/em><\/a> (FCNQ), where they learned about the history and operational realities of the co-operatives in Northern Quebec, though a presentation and tours of both the shipping facility and Inuit Art warehouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" data-id=\"248267\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-Agropur.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248267\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1350\" data-id=\"248309\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-14.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248309\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" data-id=\"248299\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-FCNQ-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248299\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248318 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The group then went into Montreal to meet with <a href=\"https:\/\/lacoop.webtv.coop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>La coop WEBTV<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> which offers a full range of solutions that put information and communications technologies at the service of the social economy and citizen movements. The latter was their first practical introduction to multi-stakeholder co-operatives, which are not yet in existence in Ghana. The weekend included experiencing the unique vibe that is only found in Montreal in the Summer, from late night street music to Old Port celebrations, not to mention a smoked meat sandwich in the namesake city.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/7-CoopsSco-Promutuel-CDRQ.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248231 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The following week began by a series of meetings held at the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec in Trois-Rivi\u00e8res, where the delegation learned well-established networks and their operations of their local members, including <a href=\"https:\/\/cooputr.qc.ca\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Coopsco 3-Rivi\u00e8res<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.promutuelassurance.ca\/fr\/vercheres-les-forges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Promutuel Assurance Verch\u00e8res &#8211; Les Forges<\/em><\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdrq.coop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>La Coop\u00e9rative de d\u00e9veloppement r\u00e9gional du Qu\u00e9bec (CDRQ)<\/em><\/a> \u2013 Centre-Du-Qu\u00e9bec\/Mauricie (CDRCQM), while also touching on co-op research at the <a href=\"https:\/\/iicadd.hec.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Institut international des coop\u00e9ratives Alphonse-et-Dorim\u00e8ne Desjardins<\/em><\/a><em> (IICADD)<\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/Livre-blanc-sur-la-releve-cooperative-canadienne-White-Paper-EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Youth in co-ops<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The following day brought them to <a href=\"https:\/\/socodevi.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SOCODEVI<\/a>, the international development agency that is operating in Ghana through the TogetHer Project, reinforcing the resilience of cocoa families through technical assistance, the establishment of agroforestry systems and innovative mechanisms for managing agricultural risks in communities that are well-known to the delegation members. This was followed by the introduction <em>to&nbsp; <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/fcaq.coop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des coop\u00e9ratives d\u2019alimentation du Qu\u00e9bec)<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em><em>(<\/em>FCAQ), the network that serves 65 food retail co-operatives in Quebec and New Brunswick. The formal day concluded with an on-site meeting with a founding member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quartierpetitchamplain.com\/en\/our-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Coop\u00e9rative du Quartier Petit Champlain<\/em><\/a>, which was the result of artisans and merchants coming together in 1985 to buy the housing stock in this heritage neighbourhood, saving it from a sale to a group of American investors. This last location also allowed them to understand the role of co-operatives in tourism, and complimented their other non-co-op stops on the Ile d\u2019Orl\u00e9ans, at Montmorency Falls, the Old city and at an (off season) sugar shack.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1075\" data-id=\"248233\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/8-SOCODEVI.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248233\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1187\" height=\"827\" data-id=\"248235\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/9-FCAQ.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248235\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" data-id=\"248237\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/10-Petit-Champlain.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248237\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The middle of the week brought them to L\u00e9vis, where they met with the <a href=\"https:\/\/cqcm.coop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Conseil qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la cooperation et de la mutualit\u00e9<\/a>, which allowed them to learn about the amazing enabling policy environment in <em>La Belle Province,<\/em> as well as the leadership roles of the provincial apex association. The group then made its way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desjardins.com\/ca\/about-us\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Desjardins<\/a>, where they learned about largest co-operative financial group in Canada, and then participated in a private tour of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desjardins.com\/a-propos\/desjardins\/qui-nous-sommes\/notre-histoire-musee\/visiter-maison-alphonse-desjardins\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maison Alphonse Desjardins,<\/a> where it all started.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1200\" data-id=\"248239\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/11-CQCM.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248239\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1200\" data-id=\"248241\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/12-Desjardins.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248241\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1200\" data-id=\"248243\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/13-Desjardins-Maison.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248243\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/14-Consortium.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248245 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The following morning was dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/leconsortium.coop\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Le Consortium de coop\u00e9ration des entreprises collectives,<\/em><\/a> where representatives from this successful and innovative shared services provider also presented some of their members, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/fqcs.coop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des cooperatives de sant\u00e9<\/em><\/a> (FQCS) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/fcctq.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des cooperatives de c\u00e2blodistribution et de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications du Qu\u00e9bec<\/em><\/a> (FCCTQ) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/eesad.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>R\u00e9seau de cooperation des entreprises d\u2019\u00e9conomie sociale en aide \u00e0 domicile (E\u00c9SADS).<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>A meal, including classic tourti\u00e8re, was served much to the delight of the participants.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday morning in Ottawa began with a meeting with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/alexandra-wilson-gcb-d-07bab143\/?originalSubdomain=ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alexandra Wilson<\/a>, ICA Board member and Chair of the Cooperative Identity Advisory Group (ICA), where the ongoing activities of the ICA were discussed and the opportunities for Ghana to contribute to the worldwide consultations were flagged. The group then moved to a central location, where a series of presentations occurred. Following a quick overview of the Canadian co-op landscape by CMC, the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdfcanada.coop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada<\/a>&nbsp; presented its activities, with an emphasis on its history in Ghana and current VOICE for Women and Girls project. These were followed by an overview of&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.econocoop.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Econocoop<\/a> and their support of entities involved in early learning and childcare, <a href=\"https:\/\/camino.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La Siembra Worker Co-operative<\/a> and their principle 6-based co-op, fair trade and organic supply chain, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/fhcc.coop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada<\/a>, where co-op solutions to the housing affordability crisis in Canada were outlined.&nbsp; The day concluded with a tour of the La Siembra Worker Co-operative Warehouse, where Camino chocolate was enjoyed, as well as a walk in the Byward, where a Beavertail was sampled.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-4 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" data-id=\"248247\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/15-Alexandra-Wilson.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248247\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" data-id=\"248249\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/16-CMC-CHF-La-Siembra-CDF-Econocoop-Claire-CQCM-et-Sidy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248249\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" data-id=\"248251\" src=\"https:\/\/canada.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/16-La-Siembra-Warehouse.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248251\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Saturday drive down to the Toronto-area via&nbsp; Highway 7 allowed the group to stop in at&nbsp; Gay Lea\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/IvanhoeCheese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ivanhoe Cheese Store<\/a> in Madoc Ontario, as well get a private tour of <a href=\"https:\/\/wellsfarm.blogspot.com\/p\/blog-page.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wellsfarm<\/a> in the township of Asphodel-Norwood.
