Ian MacPherson Legacy Fund

The Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada, in partnership with Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada and the Canadian Association for Studies in Co-operation established a scholarship fund in memory of Ian MacPherson to commemorate his lifelong contributions to the study and promotion of co-operatives.

Who was Ian MacPherson?

As a scholar, educator and co-operative activist, Dr. MacPherson personified the relationship between Canadian co-operative academics and co-op practitioners. He served as president of both the Canadian Co-operative Association (now Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada) and Credit Union Central of British Columbia (now part of Central 1 Credit Union), as well as on the boards of various consumer, financial and health care co-operatives. He wrote dozens of articles and books about co-operatives, including A Century of Co-operation, the commemorative book marking the 100th anniversary of Canada’s organized co-operative movement in 2009.

If you would like lean more about Dr. Ian MacPherson and his contributions to the sector, please contact Dr. Darryl Reed, Faculty of Management at the University of British Columbia.

The fund is primarily intended to support graduate and post-graduate students, but members of the research community who are involved with the Canadian Association for Studies in Co-operation can be considered.

Please note that applications are accepted year round. The award will be processed as a reimbursement of documented expenses and the amount is NOT transferable or to be given to any other person than the chosen recipient.
