At the beginning of January, you hear people making resolutions, committing to becoming a better version of themselves, and talking about conquering the new year. Well, here at CMC, nothing rings truer. All of the hard work our team has done in 2022 has shaped and prepared us for what is to come in 2023. A stronger CMC, filled with new ideas, innovation, strong collaboration, and a deep passion for the co-operative and mutuals sector. The first month of 2023 is nearing its end and the ideas are flying, and the work is getting done. It is safe to say that 2023 is shaping up to be our best year yet!
Though the year is young, we’ve had a couple wins under our belt. We started off the month with the inclusion of not-for-profit co-operatives in the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program. This program supports green and accessible retrofits, repairs or upgrades of existing public community buildings and the construction of new publicly accessible community buildings that serve high-needs, underserved communities across Canada. Similarly, the Community Services Recovery Fund, which was mentioned in the last edition, is now also available for not-for-profit co-operatives seeking support for pandemic recovery. The deadline to apply for the Community Services Recovery Fund is February 21st. Information on both programs can be found on our website or you can contact Diamond Isinger, Director of Advocacy.
Looking ahead into this fantastic year, we’ve also begun work on the 2023 Congress which will be held in Ottawa, June 12–14 at the Delta Ottawa City Centre Hotel. As a part of the Congress, we are seeking nominations for both new Board Members and for our CMC Awards (which features two new categories this year) as well as accepting AGM resolutions. Deadlines for these are fast approaching and more information for each of these can be found further in the newsletter or on our website as well.
