On December 10th, CMC met with two different MPs to promote the co-operative movement.

CMC met with Kelly Block, Conservative MP for Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek and Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement. MP Block is well aware of the rich history of the movement and its contributions to the vitality of communities as 50 co-operatives and credits unions as well as a mutual are active in her riding.

CMC met with Leila Dance, the recently elected MP for Elmwood—Transcona in the northeastern corner of Winnipeg, in her role as the NDP Critic for Small Business and Tourism, as well as the Deputy Critic – Transport. CMC provided an overview of the co-op sector, while also showcasing some challenges that need be addressed and opportunities that can be leveraged, to create a more enabling environment. With a strong community-oriented upbringing and background in both small business promotion and in the not-for-profit sector, MP Dance was pleased to realize the extent of the sector and the multiple connections between her riding and beyond.

CMC is excited to connect with the federal government in 2025 to create an enabling environment that will ensure that Canadian co-operatives are thriving.
