The 2025 federal election has concluded, marking a pivotal moment for Canada amidst pressing challenges such as affordability, housing, climate action and global economic uncertainty. Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) extends its congratulations to the elected Government and to newly elected, or re-elected Members of Parliament from all parties. We recognize the urgent need for collaborative solutions and innovative approaches to strengthen Canada’s economic resilience and enhance the wellbeing of Canadians.

As 2025 is the International Year of Co-operatives (IYC2025), themed “Co-operatives Build a Better World,” we highlight the enduring impact of co-operatives in addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development.

CMC is dedicated to working closely with the newly elected government to advance policies that leverage the strength of co-operatives. This includes ensuring fair access to government programs, financing, and specialized expertise to support co-operative growth nationwide, for the benefit of Canadians. Additionally, CMC urges the implementation of recommendations from consultations following motion M-100 on the role of co-operatives, and advocates for Canadian procurement that prioritizes co-operative enterprises.

Together, let’s seize this opportunity to strengthen Canada’s economic sovereignty, community wealth, and democratic engagement through the power of co-operation.
